Karaçepiş Lake, owned by Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, is to become Türkiye’s first Sport Angling Reserve, as announced by Mayor Ahmet Akın on 19 August 2025. The announcement was made at the awards ceremony of a sport angling competition the municipality organised at the lake, attended by İvrindi District Governor Faruk Atar and İvrindi Mayor Önder Lapanta.
According to the announced plan, the reserve of about 500 decares will have a 4 km walking trail around it, room for 25 teams to camp or compete at the same time, and will operate all twelve months of the year. National and international competitions are planned, and every fish caught will be photographed and returned to its natural habitat.
The interview about the project highlights giving young people experience in nature, sharing the catch & release culture and hosting international gatherings. As a community we work with public institutions, local authorities and related organisations, and share updates here and on our YouTube channel.
Figures and facilities are plans from the Metropolitan Municipality’s announcement of 19 Aug 2025; follow official announcements for the current status and opening date.
